Course Overview

The Level 5 course is a nationally recognised qualification that aims to upskill primary school teachers, HLTAs and TAs to improve the overall delivery of the physical education curriculum within primary schools.  On successful completion of this qualification, delegates will be able to assist in raising the standards within primary school physical education teaching within their schools.

The programme consists of six facilitated full day sessions with independent tasks undertaken in school, which will benefit individual school PE programmes and actions.  There is an opportunity of networking across schools supporting each other through the process as well as pupil participations in sport activities between schools organised by New College Play Leaders scheme.

The programme consists 141 hours, which includes 45 tutored hours and 96 independent learning hours.  The tutored sessions will include a 2-hour induction on Thursday 31 January from 4:15pm to 6:15pm where a member of the SMT will be invited to attend with the applicant and 6 full-day sessions for the applicant only from 8:30am to 4:30pm over the course of a year; dates as follows below.  The course will take place at New College Pontefract (WF8 4QR).

Level 6 Progression

Once Level 5 has been completed, there is an opportunity to complete Level 6 that enables Primary School Teachers to lead on delivery of the primary school physical education curriculum. The cost of Level 6 will be approximately £450 per candidate (final figure TBC).   On successful completion of this qualification, delegates will be able to take subject leadership within primary school physical education teaching and deliver high quality primary school physical education.

Level 5 must be completed prior to staring Level 6.  You will also need Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to undertake the Level 6 Award.
