About NCTSA

The NCTSA is a collaborative project involving over 25 primary, secondary, post-16 and higher education institutions from our region focusing on teaching and learning CPD, initial teacher training (ITT), National Professional Qualifications and school improvement.

We are led by directors from New Collaborative Learning Trust to steer the work. New College Pontefract, graded outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in 2013, is the first sixth form college in Yorkshire to form and lead a Teaching School.  Ranked third nationally in success rate league tables for sixth form colleges, and shortlisted for 2015 TES College of the Year 2015, New College is well placed to play a pivotal role in driving the success of the alliance.

The NCTSA provides us with the opportunity to share best practice with providers from every sector; primary, secondary and post-16; and engage in a variety of dynamic school-to-school support initiatives throughout the region. Over the last few years, the NCTSA has taken the lead in a number of exciting projects, including the Strategic School Improvement Fund (SSIF) literacy project, backed by £330,000 from the Department for Education, which set out to improve literacy in 13 schools across the Wakefield area. We also work with individual schools and teachers on bespoke improvement plans using our experienced team of Specialist Leaders of Education (SLE).

We offer a wide ranging CPD programme, from subject specific courses to courses on how we learn. They are designed to challenge and support professionals working in education at all stages of their careers, from NQTs to experienced senior leaders, including the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL).

The NCTSA and its strategic partners have an excellent track record of working with trainee teachers through School Direct PGCEs and local universities. We combine the latest innovative teaching practice and excellent placement opportunities to help ensure our graduates are equipped with the most relevant and up-to-date skills needed within the workplace. The NCTSA also works in close collaboration with two other local initial teacher training (ITT) providers: Five Towns ITT Partnership and Yorkshire Three Counties Alliance SCITT.
